Baseball Scholarships
Baseball scholarships are more plentiful than scholarships in many other sports, and players of all skill levels may find themselves eligible for a number of awards offered not only by the college they plan to attend, but by local leagues and organizations. Most of the local scholarships place some weight on financial need, extracurricular activities and academic records, but for some you only need to prove you have played on those local teams to be eligible.
Most of the larger schools have scholarship funds offered by alumni who have played on their college team, or funding dedicated to drawing talented baseball players to that college. Often coaches may be able to choose whether to divide available funding among a group to form the strongest team or give the bulk of funding to one particularly talented player that has impressed them on the field and that they would like to recruit. But don’t rule out the lesser-known funding sources, as they may be far less competitive and just as generous as awards given by your college.

Dixie Youth Baseball Scholarships
While the scholarship awards began with modest awards in 1961 - the presentation of two grants, one for $500 and another for $250 - Dixie Youth Baseball awarded seventy (70) $2,000 scholarship awards in 2009. Total awards since inception of the scholarship program now number 904 with an aggregate value of $1,576,950. Dixie Youth funds its scholarships through interest on funds earmarked for DYB, scholarships, new donations received annually, and any surplus funds transferred from the general operating funds of the program.
NCAA Scholarships and Internships
Athletic scholarships for undergraduate student-athletes at Division I and Division II schools are partially funded through the NCAA membership revenue distribution. About $1 billion in athletic scholarships are awarded each year. Over 126,000 student-athletes receive either a partial or full athletic scholarship. However, these scholarships are awarded and administered directly by each academic institution, not the NCAA.
American Legion Baseball Scholarships
Since 1925, The American Legion has sponsored a nationwide youth baseball program. During these past eight decades, millions of young players have enjoyed playing baseball. The American Legion and their 2.8 million members have raised millions of dollars each year for players to learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship. The American Legion sponsors American Legion Baseball to give players an opportunity to develop their skills, personal fitness, leadership qualities and to have fun.
